We are fee for service, and out of network providers for many insurance companies.
We currently accept cash and personal checks as payment.
Our professional services are paid in advance by monthly retainer, or in advance of each session if so arranged with your treating psychologist at the time treatment is initiated (when you sign the Consent to Treatment, Fee Agreement, and other Office Forms.)
You alone are responsible for payment of your services in advance of each session, (by retainer for a month of sessions where that is our agreement).
In that case, you are responsible for paying for one month of sessions regardless of your insurance coverage.
Psychotherapy, consultation, and psychological assessment are professional services, and you are responsible for your scheduled appointment time whether or not you are able to attend. In most cases you will have already paid by retainer.
We require 48 hours notice for cancelled appointments.
Your 45 minute clinical hour (session) is reserved solely for your use and usually cannot be filled on short notice.
We honor emergency cancellations, and attempt to provide reschedules within the following week.
Other email, phone, and conversations conducted outside of regular session time are billed at the session rate if they are beyond 10 minutes.
for services is due
of clinical sessions, psychological assessment,
(or at time of session,
if arranged with your psychologist)
in order that it not detract from our therapeutic work together.
You will receive a SuperBill at the end of each month reflecting payment that you may submit for to your insurance company for reimbursement.
If you or a family member qualify as victims of crime (& a police report exists) the CA Victim Assistance Program will retrieve the police report for you (Call 408.295.2656 in Santa Clara County for an intake) (they will direct you to a similar office in the County or State in which your victimization occurred), 1) after paying the amount owed to abbey for your session 2) submit the Statement to each parent's insurance in turn for payment, what they do not pay, may be submitted to the Victim Assistance Center for (usually full) reimbursement for the victim of the crime, family members living in the household at the time of the crime (per your request and their approval). This amounts to significant, often full, and rapid coverage, for victims.
If you are not a victim of crime, your insurance may pay for the special expertise of out-of-network providers, for example, severe stress and extreme trauma.
If your insurance does not cover out-of-network providers, you may be able to pay for therapy from your pre-tax income using an FSA or HSA account.
We encourage you to contact your insurance company directly with questions about the percent of your coverage BEFORE engaging in therapy/testing.
Saratoga office and setting
at the very back corner of westhope presbyterian church (facing Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and its driveway, next to the fenced-in playground of the French Multicultural Preschool), abbey has a pale blue door -and children's artwork in the window.
we are one among many in a constellation of independent health mental health care, meditation, music, and education providers, tutors, quilters, dancers, gardeners, and contemplative spiritual directors sharing an expansive, serene setting.
Parking is ample, convenient and free.
Saratoga office is large but does not have a waiting room, so we appreciate the mild weather, wide overhang outside the walkway in case of rain, and the numerous places for resting and sitting.
Restrooms are accessed on the other side of our wing of the building, opening onto the parking lot near the Basketball Hoops and Church Office.
We are welcome to use indoor facilities here and there if weather becomes inclement, and have access to a large kitchen for warming food, etc.
People come and go throughout the day and evening for a variety of activities -- you will see them working in the gardens, hear children practicing the piano, others are walking to the nearby park. Children and adults may be walking the labyrinth, playing basketball, others come and go at the South Bay Insight Meditation Center, Senior Center, bring their children for French Tutoring, and come for Spiritual Direction and Retreats to the Contemplative Center of Silicon Valley.

We are most available to communicate by email, for routine procedural issues, such as scheduling, but we do not conduct therapy by email, in large part because confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
Email, phone, and conversations conducted outside of regular session time are billed at the session rate if they are beyond 10 minutes.
It is our policy not to message/text with patients, as texting is not a secure method of communicating.
At times we will text regarding procedural issues: directions or clarifying appointments.
