"writing down the bones", 2015, 2016

Drs. Livingston and Ruebsamen collaborated on a chapter with David Reed  in an edited volume entitled:
Social Systems: Interface with Legal, Immigration and Case Management, for an edited volume on the subject of Immigrant Youth, by Daryn Reicherter, M.D., Stanford Psychiatrist, and Sita Patel, Ph.D., with David Reed, Palo Alto University. 2016. We highly  recommend an informative chapter on PTSD in children in the same volume, co-authored by shared former student and supervisee, Dr. Hilit Kletter, Stanford.

Dr. Sam Himelstein
Center for Adolescent Studies

Dr. Himelstein is rightly esteemed for his ability to engage alienated youth in correctional facilitieswhose brief, impulsive decisions may have resulted in 50-60- year incarcerations . . . we are, applying this deepened knowledge and sharpened skills to interventions with challenged adolescents and sharing with supervisees and colleagues.   Course addresses awareness, self-esteem, emotional regulation, how to better connect and maintain connection with these kids, and is highly interactive in design.
WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND MBSAT TRAINING WITH
DR. HIMMELSTEIN FOR ALL WHO WORK WITH EARLY ADOLESCENTS AND OLDER YOUTH

loved it the day Big Ben turned blue for the children of the world!!

Their doctoral teaching and private practice and agency/school-based clinical involvement with individuals and families experiencing poverty, extreme stress and complex trauma throughout their academic and clinical/forensic careers led them to working in the US for thirty years each; they now continue part-time private practice work, clinical and forensic, and are working with individuals from other countries, having developed and leading a global nonprofit.

In Silicon Valley and the Monterey Bay Area they provide direct services through assessment and psychotherapy, teaching, training, speaking at national and at international conferences, supervising, providing innovative treatment for refugees and asylum-seeking children and families, and continuing to expand Always Be Listening Global Initiative.

They have decades of experience as professors, providing instruction, collaborating, consulting, supervising, directing clinical training programs, conducting psychological assessment and providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents and families in private practice and agencies, hospitals, organizations.

They have spent many years in forensic/clinical work in public mental health, and collaborating with others in international programs for children and families who are hopeless and helpless, affected by generational distress and hardship, war, disasters, conflict, post-conflict situations, persistent health issues such as malaria, ebola, adult and pediatric HIV/AIDS, populations chronically exposed to conflict, especially interpersonal, interparental violence (IVP), and serving low-income children, adolescents and families entangled by the oppression of poverty, exploitation, and violence.

They are well known for consistently providing critical, no-fee pro bono services for fragile, marginalized children, youth, and struggling families.  They specialize in psychological assessment, providing assessment informed, relationship based, need and evidence-based intervention and treatment, as well as supervising and mentoring, providing broad based consultation, and forensic testimony and consultation to attorneys.

Both are longtime supporters of major peace, interfaith and humanitarian organizations such as Physicians for Human Rights, PHAP, Lifeline Nehemiah Project in Sierra Leone, CAIR-Council for American Islamic Relations, HealthRight International, MSF/Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children Jordan, MedAir, International Medical Corps, Gates Foundation, Clinton Initiative, World Food Programme, UN Women, UNICEF, World Vision, Doctors of the World, etc.

-- and have developed their own unique global nonprofit which provides brief psychological assessment to facilitate  "listening" accurately to the direct experience of post conflict war-affected children and provide them with appropriately matched need-based treatment through indigenous psychologists at the borders of twelve countries

MANHATTAN SCHOOL CHILDREN RESPOND WITH ART AFTER PARIS AND LEBANON ATTACK
HUFFINGTON POST
Manhattan School Children Respond to Paris Attacks with Art

You, who are on the road Must have a code
That you can live by.
And so -- Become Yourself
Because the past Is just a good-bye

Teach your children well
Your father's hell did slowly go by
And feed them on your Dreams
The one they pick The one you'll know by
Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you.

And you of tender years Can't know the fears
That your elders grew by
And so please help them with your youth
They seek the truth before they can die

Teach your parents well.
The children's hell will slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they pick The one you'll know by
Don't you ever ask them why -
If they told you you would cry
So just look at them and sigh And know they love yo
u.
